MSW to RN?

I know that this topic has been discussed before, but I was hoping to connect with others in a similar situation. I'm currently a licensed MSW. I have worked a combined 8 years. Mainly in Hospice but for about 2 years mental health with adolescents and DSS.

For a while now I have felt a little disheartened with social work. I really enjoying helping the RN I work with with. I am considering working on the prerequisites and applying to a nursing program. I originally wanted to do mental health nursing before I went for my MSW but let extended family and my significant other at the time talk me out of it.

I guess my biggest concerns now are 1. I'm too old to do school I'm 36. 2. What if I'm terrible at being a nurse. (I have a more reserved introverted personality) 3. I'm afraid of not having job options like my experience in Social Work. (You are of course told in school that their will be a ton of job options).

My immediate family and husband are supportive. A really good friend of mine is a RN and advises against going back. I think due to her own experience working in hospitals and home health. I'm just not sure and was hoping that maybe someone would be able to give some unbiased advice. Sorry for rambling on and thanks for in advance for suggests etc.

Type "old" and "msw" in the search box. Both have a lot of discussion. You aren't too old. You will have diverse options. Your friend had one experience and may have had a negative experience as a rocket scientist, fruit taste tester, or rock star as well. Talk to many people in nursing about their experiences.
