Moving back to Florida

I hope I can get some advice or at least opinions. I am originally from Florida which is where I went to nursing school and the majority of working as a nurse in Florida. In 2009, I entered the IPN program. I also moved in 2009 to Asheville, NC and had to transfer into their program. I was all ready to complete the program and be finished, but 3 months before I was to be done, a drug screen came back positive. I didn't agree with the results , but never the less my license was "voluntarily" suspended. This was back in March 2013. So, I don't have a license in Florida but I am wanting to move back to Florida, because North Carolina is the absolute worst state to live in the country. I was told by the Florida BON that I would sit before the board after January 6, 2015 to determine whether or not I would be allowed to reinstated. Would the fact that I don't have my NC license prevent me from getting my Florida License? I hate living in Asheville, and I feel I might not get my license back in NC despite doing everything I am supposed to be doing.

    Usually voluntary surrender is for a specific period of time, at least from that state. On one hand you say you're doing everything expected of you, after a positive screen in N.C., but you voluntarily surrendered your license? Generally a positive screening, without diversion, will warrant some kind of monitoring if no prescription coverage is presented. If it was a random screening, and not on the job, you really shouldn't have been thinking about voluntary surrender. Although voluntary surrendering is easier to be reinstated the time frame generally is honored between states. But not always. However, you first must be a resident to apply for a single state license of that state.
