More about Roane State CC?

I have been attending Roane State for some Prereqs since Spring 2010 (I have a BS so only needed 4 classes). When calculating my GPA they only used to classes that were needed for the prereqs. This helped my GPA alot. I start nursing school in the fall and we were told at the Nursing Program meeting that this year there were over 600 eligible applicants and 110 were selected.

I too hear alot of great things about RSCC from nurses that I work with that it has an awesome reputation.

It certainly is possible (if I can do it anyone can) so go for it. Besides it certainly wouldn't hurt to apply to both. Several people at RSCC did exactly that.

That's really helpful information... the 110 out of 600 is intimidating, but I'm up for it. :)

I am going into my last year of the nursing program at RSCC and you are right it is cheaper and highly respected!! We have a great reputation and although hospitals may not say it, many nurse recruiters have told us they look for RSCC graduates! That is encouraging, esp in this economy.

Unfortunately, it doesnt matter if you have previous degrees or experience. They only go by grades, then points from math and science courses, and whether you passed the HESI or not. Once you pass that you are put into the batch (and yes it is around 600 applicants) then they start throwing people out, if you did not complete math or make a C or higher you automatically get tossed. The only GPA they look at is the nursing pre-reqs and if you dont do as well on a certain course you can take it as many times as you need and they take the highest grade. Try to make the best grades you can in math and science classes.

A friend who graduated told me, the hard part is not getting in...it's staying in. And boy that is the truth, def the hardest thing I've ever done but like the above comment says you can do it!! RSCC does offer nursing advising meetings, I'm not sure when they are but you can call or check out the website, they offer lots of info and will answer all your questions. Good Luck!!
