Memphis Programs

I am looking hard at that program as well. I have a business degree, and am in my 40's. My undergrad grads are worse than yours, 2.7. Like you I took prereq's recently, and made all A's. Problem is that pesky GPA from when I was young and lazy! I took the Teas V, made an 84%, and will take it once more before sending my application. How did you do?

My reasoning for choosing UT is simple. Why get a ASN or BSN if I can get a MSN in basically the same amount of time.

That being said, I am going to go where ever I can get in. I am going to keep applying until someone takes me!

I am going to try to apply for this summer's program! I'm having trouble finding the time to study for the TEAS between planning a wedding, building a house, and moving. But like you, I'm going to keep applying until I get in! Have you applied in the past or is this your first time? Did you go to the Diversity Day program today?

This is my first time to appy anywhere! I am taking my A & P 2 and Stats next semester. I know that the website said we can apply while we finish those classes, but I wonder if anyone has gotten in without them being completed at interview time.

I didn't attend diversity day. I didn't know there was anything going on on campus.

To prepare for the Teas V, I worked on the Teas V study manual, and took the $37 online practice test. the online test was very helpful in pinpointing exactly which areas I was weakest in.

I was surprised how quickly the Teas test spots filled up. If you don't already have your reservation, you might want to make one.

Have you attended the UT Webinar the CNL program hosts? The next one is Monday night at 5PM. It is very informative.

I am keeping my fingers crossed, trying to get all my info into Nursing Cas by 12-15-11 so the holidays are worry free.

Just some anecdotal advice. I've been interviewing for RN positions here in Memphis and from hiring managers, they prefer an ADN or BSN for a new nurse. They don't think the direct entry masters nurses are clinically prepared enough for them compared to the ADN or BSN prepared nurses. They've said their floor managers have pushed back to them b/c of the new nurse precepting being much harder b/c of lack if clinical prep. Just my two cents from recent job searching.

Thanks for the info. Can you be more specific about the clinical experience concerns? Is it that the time spent in non clinical course work short changes the clinical side?

I have heard from a friend at St.Jude that ADN nurses are a hard placement, and that they are getting pushed down the chain so to speak.

It is all very confusing as an outsider to the industry.

Are you looking at the VA? I've heard that they have implimented the CNL position.

I landed a job pregraduation from an ADN program. There are some places that won't hire new ADN, but it didn't hurt me when at hospitals that do. The Med, Methodist north, south Germantown, the VA will all hire ADN. The VA will not consider you until you pass nclex and then it's a 4-5 month vetting process, so most people work elsewhere first.

Again, it's antecdotal, but hiring managers have said that the clinical prep is not thorough enough for a new nurse. Not enough basics and too much "masters" theory. Not saying don't do it, but the best entry for a new nurse is BSN in the hierarchy of local job placement.

How about externships? I want to get some hospital experience, I don't have any work experience in and out of the hospital and I am being one should have some type of work experience either as intern/extern or something in the hospital setting? what do u guys know about that
