I found the e-books so useful that I sold all my bound books on Amazon, because i knew that I wasn't going to use them. It comes with the "Pageburst" program which allows you to download all of the books on to a laptop and take them wherever you go. You can search, outline, and create your own study guides. They truly are amazing, but they aren't for everyone. Some of my classmates feel that they needed the regular books to outline, scribble on, lug around, etc., but it's just up to the individual and how you want to study. Having the e-books during careplanning is amazing, because you can copy and paste information into your careplans which is in fact encouraged by your professors. E-books aren't technically transferable, but I'm giving up access to my evolve account, because I know I won't ever use it again. You would have everything you need and I plan to throw in .pdf files of the Pharmacology book and the Pathophysiology books as well.

I have for sale (hardly used) a men's large Uniform shirt with the patch already sewn on and a men's large lab coat also with the patch sewn on. I also have the entire elsevier e-books for sale (These e-books are really great, and I could carry all my textbooks in my computer. Since I no longer have need for these items, I am selling them at a greatly discounted price. If you haven't read in my previous posts, I have left the CSULB nursing program and will be leaving for Scotland in September to get my Masters in Research in Infection and Immunobiology at the University of Glasgow. As per terms of service, I can't list costs on here, but if you are interested, please send me a pm, and we can talk more about getting you some of these items. Nic

I apologize for my error... The Long Beach Health Department is the place for Vaccinations and Boosters...I got my titers through Long Beach City College where I was going to school for my pre-reqs. They gave them to me at a drastic discount and sent me to Quest Diagnostics for my titers. I suggest asking your school health center if they have a similar program, because Quest can be pretty expensive if you don't get it through the school. I'm sorry for the confusion...

Re: Immunizations: GET TITERS FIRST! If you already have immunity as proven by your titers, you do not need to get the immunizations. You are already immune. This will save you a ton of money. If your insurance doesn't cover this or if you do not have insurance, I suggest getting your titers and shots at the Long Beach Health Department. Good Prices, no lines, great service. City of Long Beach, CA - Adult Immunization2525 Grand Ave. Long Beach (562)570-4000 They commonly have Flu and H1N1 free immunization clinics, so keep an eye on their site or call to ask when the next ones are being held.

I didn't have to register for Pharm to audit the class. Just ask the professor and you can be put on the email and Beachboard list for the class without having to have a grade reported. There was considerably more material in the CSULB class, so it was certainly worth it to audit, because you will be using these drugs directly on patients your first semester, so there's no such thing as too much information on drugs in your head. The exams are horrid, so you will be glad that you don't have to take them.

I assure you it doesn't defeat the purpose of taking it early. Having the A on record gave me the leisure of being able to sit in on the class without registering for it at CSULB. It was very helpful to participate in the class and learn more about the drugs without having to take those horrid exams.

CSULB Fall 2012 BSN
I took Pharm online at SBCC and it was mind-numbingly easy. I got an A in it and finished the class about a month early. You can move at your own pace and get it all done in a weekend if you want. I ended up auditing Pharm at CSULB this semester, because I just wanted to learn more about the drugs that I would be using in the hospital. The professor is very supportive of letting you audit, so you can learn the material more in depth without the stress of cryptic exams. FINANCIAL AID STUDENTS: If you are counting on Stafford loans to pay for your education, I would seriously consider which program (BASIC or TRIMESTER) you want to choose. It is likely that your Stafford loans will max out before you get to the summer trimester, and you can be left with nothing to pay for that semester. Summer semester is also more expensive than Fall and Spring, so I encourage you to get all the financial information NOW before you go to orientation and choose your program. In addition, if you are a second degree BSN student, you will be classified as a Graduate Student and will pay Graduate level fees and are processed through the graduate division. However, you will not be eligible for any graduate loans (including the Graduate PLUS loan) or any graduate grants or fellowships. Make your financial plan early and look forward to the entire program. Hope this helps!

one person asked me a bunch of questions, and since many of you may have the same questions, i thought i'd share the answers with you here. we're you in basic or trimester? how long have you been in the program? first trimester i'm interested in the trimester program. is it true the instructors are harder? i wonder why? it's not that the instructors are harder, but the summers are more compressed and faster. more sill be expected, because it just simply moves faster. at your orientation was a lottery necessary or did each program have enough volunteers? it was almost equal, but there was a lottery and i believe 4-5 people had to do trimester when they wanted to do basic do we get our schedules at orientation for the fall? no, but you will get it soon after. you have no say in your schedule or who you are in clinical with.. how soon do we get a book list? i'd like to try to find as many as i can online to try to save some money? (selling your books?) the book list will come out later than orientation, but earlier than school starting. if they use the same package, i suggest getting it early, because they ran out in the spring. the advantage of getting the package vs. the individual books from amazon or textbooks.com is that the package comes with a full set of e-books with pageburst program. the e-books are unbelievably helpful for copy and pasting for care plans and papers and just finding things quickly with the search functions. i had the package and only was using the e-books, so i sold all my books on amazon to help alleviate the costs. does csulb have nurses gear? like bags, shirts, etc. cnsa will have a large selection of csulb nursing gear this fall. we just ordered a ton of it. any tips on teachers or clinical instructors? anyone's to be "aware of" any really picky or have special quirks? any really nice and everyone like? i'm not going to go into this, because everyone's opinions of professors is different, and i want you to have an open mind when you meet your professors. any info on capstones? like the best time to try to complete them? good classes/teachers? i have a bs degree already, so i wasn't required to complete capstone classes. i would ask about that at the orientation r call the department do we have class/clinicals 5 days a week? weekends? weekends are off, but if you have a monday clinical, then you will be doing pre-planning on sunday. clinical is only one day per week first semester, and your schedule will depend on how many co-requisites you have taken (pharm, nutrition, patho, etc.), but there is plenty of time study and still have some semblance of a life...but you will be extremely busy, and if you have to work, i would seriously consider reducing your hours.

I've been offered a place in a Masters in Research program in Infection and Immunobiology at the University of Glasgow in Scotland... So I've decided to accept... Nursing wasn't a lifelong dream for me as I know it is for many, so I'm following my gut and going for my true passion. It's better to change my plans early than to go through an entire program when I know my heart is somewhere else.

CSULB Fall 2012 BSN
Congratulations everyone... It's such a great feeling to get that acceptance letter. I know you are feeling excited and anxious and maybe a little freaked out. If you have any questions about how the process progresses from here, I'd be glad to answer any questions. I will be leaving the nursing program at CSULB after this semester and will be pursuing other educational opportunities beginning this fall, so I'm afraid that I won't be seeing you this fall semester. I encourage all of you to get involved with CNSA as soon as possible, because it will give you a great insight into the program and will help you learn leadership skills right from your first semester. Check into Santa Barbara City College for online Pharmacology and Pathophysiology for the summer. The classes are completely online, and it will make your life unbelievably easier the first semester... seriously.. do everything you can to at least take Pharm before you start this fall. I wish you all the best and hope that the program works out great for you. Remember.. this is YOUR education, and you are paying for it, so be willing to stand up for yourself and demand the education that you have earned.

I've heard this talked about in meetings. As of now, there will be no spring entry for any of the nursing programs at CSULB. However, a lot will depend on the tax vote this November. If the bill does not pass, the results will be devastating for the University as well as the rest of the public universities in California. Things can change for the good or the bad, and you can't blame the nursing program or even the university, because it's in the hands of the California voters. If funding increases, anything can happen, so don't abandon back up plans yet.
