  1. Hi KTC328. I have looked at several DNP programs online and the time and expense required in a DNP program is steep. I will wait as long as I can, if it becomes a requirement in the future. You can bet that most programs will be available online, and streamlined to accommodate working NP's, there is such a shortage of NP's they have to make it alot easier than it is now if or when this becomes an requirement.
  2. I live in Oregon. My sites are different. One of my advisors told me of the clinical sites available in Oregon. None are in my area so I have to make my own. It is a little overwhelming because I have to find preceptors willing to work with me then send in paper work to my school, the agency where the FNP's work, and even the board of nursing. It can take over 6 mos. I am currently working on it because my clinicals start in Jan 2012. Hope I answered your question.
  3. I have the same issue for weekend call. I also go to PACU and waste with an RN there. I take my unused amounts, waste them in front of the PACU nurse as we put the info in the Pixis. Our techs, even if they have an MOA background, do not have access to the Pixis. I have no idea about the DEA regulation.
  4. I will be attending my first onsite clinical visit at UAB in 2 weeks. I am being tested during my health assessment class. They have been working with us so that we will be prepared. Having said that I am still nervous.
  5. Hi LuluRN, Benedictine (MSN in education) is a good school. I had issues in my nursing and politics class with the instructor that left a bad tast in my mouth but otherwise the experience was good. They work fast to get you enrolled, and they call you often to remind you to sign up for classes. The good thing about becoming a nurse educator right now is that you can get money! There is such a shortage that the government and some states are footing the bill. I am currently in the UAB FNP program. You can get funding by the government if you work for them after school for a couple of years as a NP. I didn't make that commitment. I currently work fulltime and goe to school parttime and expect to graduate in 2012. With UAB I have had to be very proactive. I keep up with my own schedule. I am working on getting my preceptors worked out now before next spring. You may have holds on registration if your TB is not up to date or other required immunizations so you have to keep up with your records. Hope this helps, Paige1665
  6. "Is anyone here actually in the program or been in the program that would be willing to give me info on specific questions I have about the program? I would really really appreciate it! I am applying for Fall 2011 but am planning to get ahead and take classes this summer as a non-degree student. Any help at all would be SO GREAT!!" Erin 801 Hello Erin I have been in the UAB FNP program since last fall, do you still have questions? Paige1665
  7. Hello Pretty wings. I have not graduated from my online FNP program from UAB but this program works for me. I spent 1 year in a MSN nurse educator program through Benedictine University ( online) and I was on 10 week terms. It was intense! I switched to a FNP program and I am now in a part-time program and I will graduate in 2012. Here are the answers to a couple of your questions from my perspective. Pros- you can do your school work at home in your PJ's at anytime. I still work full time while I am in school and I have more freedom with this program. But the most important reason I go to school online is that there are no MSN programs available in my area. Cons- sometimes it is hard to know what you instructor wants without the face to face interaction. Its nice to have the structure of the classroom which you will not have with an online program. Ypu have to have discipline and you must study. My college is 2 hours ahead of me so I have had to get time off to take tests online that are only offered during a certain block of time. To tell you the truth, if there was a school close by with my program I would be in it now. I would love the classroom atmosphere and the friendships that I would have developed. Hope this helps and good luck with your decision. Page1665
  8. I went to the online Benedictine Nurse education program but stopped in the spring to pursue a FNP program. I was excepted into the UAB FNP program just this week!!! I went for several terms at Benedictine, so what would you like to know? I will tell you that they are cheaper than UN of Phoenix, and the staff is wonderful. It is all online.
