I'm assuming you're referring to me, fetachz. I was in the second accelerated cohort. Graduated August 26th 2010 :)

My advice to anyone applying is to shoot for the highest GPA that you can (not just the minimum to get accepted). It's the only way you can secure your spot in the program. I farted around with a lot of my prerequisites and didn't really take them too seriously thinking that if I got straight B's then I would for sure get accepted (since the minimum to get in was a C). This was around the time that they threw out the wait list. I was thoroughly shocked when I didn't get in the first time. In a nutshell: Re-taking classes sucks. Learn from my mistake and try to be a shoo-in the from the get-go if you can help it. Shoot for as many 4.0's as you can get. If I had really buckled down in the beginning, I would be an RN right now...

At OCC you have your 11 core classes that they base your GPA off of: A&P I A&P II Micro Comp I Comp II Nutrition Psychology Sociology Political Science 1 credit of Physical education 3 or more credits of fine arts and humanities There is no admissions test to get into the program. It goes ONLY off of your GPA and nothing else (unless there is a tie, which is a different story). However, after you are accepted, you must take the NET test. Don't worry though, because if you do poorly, it won't affect your admission to the program :). It's just a test to assess your strengths and weaknesses as a student.

I guess I am kind of confused on your question, then. For me: I applied in 2007 (December) and didn't get in I then re-took some of my prerequisites I applied again in 2008 (December) and was accepted in March At the time I was accepted, they were offering an accelerated track (which is what I am in now), and that began in May. Otherwise, the traditional program begins their classes in August. As for the GPA thing, there isn't any wait list at all (even according to GPA). You just apply, and if you don't get in, then you re-apply the following year. The catch is that there is no seniority based on who applied first. Each year, they take their whole group of applicants (old and new) and re-organize them by GPA. So however long you have to wait to get in depends on how high your GPA is and however many people have a higher GPA than you. I hope that helps. Good luck!!

OCC no longer has a wait list. It goes by GPA now. When I first applied, I didn't get in and I had a 3.5GPA. I re-took some of my prerequisites to bring it up to a 3.92 and I got in right away the following May.

I heard last semester from one of the instructors that she is 99% sure there won't be an accelerated program offered in 2010. Of course, this is the same thing they told all of us (they ended up getting the grant like 2 weeks before they sent out letters). It would be wise, however, to make sure you are getting above a 3.8 GPA if you want a chance in accelerated just in case it is offered. Our average GPA is 3.9
