Hello all,

I'm an active duty sailor who really really want to become a naval nurse and I was wondering if there are any MECP grads out there who can assist me with my package. I'm two classes short from my AA and I'm almost done with all my preq for nursing. I would appreciate any ones help because becoming a naval nurse will be a dream come true.

No offense, but something is not right. You say your an active duty sailor, but your profile says your 61 years old, what are really looking for? Where are you currently stationed? How many years do you have in? What is your current rate? These are things that will help determine answers to your questions.

Sorry about that sir I made a mistake when I register yesterday Im actally 31 not 65. To answer your qestions Im an AT1 petty officer stationed in mayport Florida. I've been in the navy going on 10 years. Sir I its my passion and destiny to become a nurse. I've worked three years as a part time mental tech at the mental health center at Jacksonville. I got accepted into jacksonvile University school of Nursing on the contingent of me finishing my AA which I only have 2 classes left. The only thing I got left to do for the MECP is take the ACT which I plan on going to the navy college to refresh before I take it. I really need a reccommendation from a naval nurse and since I'm an AT its really hard to get one. I you have any more questions to ask me sir please feel free to ask.

Ah, now I got you on the age thing. The reason I was a little gruff at first is that we have had people come on here from overseas and ask lots of military questions that don't fit the board. We were a little rough back with them and they left, they were asking things that shouldn't be put out on the board, if you know what I mean. So always leary of when things don't seem right. Anyway, back to your situation. I'm glad you want to come to the nurse corps and I'll do what I can. Did you have your interview yet? I sat on a board on the USS Clackring (sp) for an ET who wanted the nurse corps. Because I was on his board, they used my recommendation, that's why I asked. The other thing you can do is go to the nearest hospital, Jacksonville probably, and volunteer somewhere there. Thorough your volunteer effort you can get a recommendation that way. I have a contact in ED if your interested. Let me know, I'm happy to help.

No sir I havent had my interview yet but I plan on doing so way before the OCT 1 deadline. Sir You mention that you have sit on an interview and I was curious of what should I expect and what are some of the no no's? You also mention that you had a contact in ED and I was wondering if you met ER since D is real close to R on the keyboard lol. Anyways sir if you do have a contact at Jacksoville Hospital I will be very happy if you can tell me more about it.

thanks sir

As far as ED, standing for Emergency Department vs. ER Emergency Room. It all depends on where you are and what people want to call it, my last command got bent out of shape if you said ER. Nonetheless, I suck at typing so always good to check. Anyway, I'll send you a PM with my contacts name and what not, he was an ET before he became a nurse, been in like 28 years now I think. As for the interview/ board. It was myself, the member's supervisor, and the XO of the ship, mind you it was a small ship. Basically, the interview is to find out what kind of sailor you've been over the years, they look at your record. If you have anything you are concerned about, be prepared to answer questions about it, don't try to cover it up. As far as the nurse part goes, I asked questions about why you wanted to become a nurse, basically looking for your motivation to do so. That member's response had to do with care that his wife and brother had received in the past and his desire to help people like that. Don't make your answer mushy, like you want to cure everyone with a disease. Just be honest about it, the nurse that does your interview may be tougher than I was or they may be easier. The key is to know why you want to become a nurse in the first place, what in your past has caused you to want to go from being an AT to being medical? Also, leave anything related to the money out of your answer, include something related to your past and how you'vre been a leader to junior ATs and how you could take that experience and relate it to being a leader as a Nurse Corps Officer. I hope this helps, check your PMs for the nurse's name at JAX. Take care.
