Hi all!
I am a new RN grad (passed boards in October!!! wooo!) who is currently working as an EMT-B for a 911 agency and as an EMT-B and RN for a transport company. I have always always always wanted to work in OB since I first decided I was going to be a nurse. Anyways, I finally got the interview for a maternity position at a hospital close to where I am moving back to. The first interview I had at the facility was with the nurse recruiter, she loved me and told me that I almost made her cry when I explained to her why I wanted to be a nurse. She told me that she thought I would be a great fit and that the next step was to wait for department managers to call me for interviews. I got an OB call the same day while I was still in town actually and ended up going right back into the hospital to interview with the department manager and her nurse manager. I can't even begin to explain how amazingly well that interview went. I know it's a long standing tradition that it is very rare for them to hire new grads, however she mentioned close to 5 times at the end that I had interviewed so well. They seemed to really love me and my stories and experiences. They actually were really impressed by my EMS experiences. I was called 2 days later for a peer interview. They mentioned that the manager had said a lot of really great things about me and that they knew my ems schedule was busier so they were giving me first picks at interview times on the peer interview day. This interview was about a week and a half later and it also went amazingly well. It was with 3 staff RNs who would be on night shift with me if I was lucky enough to receive this opportunity. We really seemed to get along great. The one (who was hired there as a new grad 15 years ago) at first said "they'll call you if they want you to do a job shadow" and then like 30 seconds later she was like, "actually, I'm going to go ahead and schedule you". I have my job shadow on Monday and I'm sooo excited for it. There are 11 applicants for 2 positions and knowing that I'm kinda unlikely due to lack of experience, I was wondering what your thoughts were on my chances in getting this job. I also interviewed, job shadowed, and was offered a job on a med-surg floor at the same hospital. I really want to hold out for the maternity position but I can't afford to miss out on the med-surg position if OB doesn't work out. They called me for the position friday, the day after I shadowed and they need an answer soon (by sometime next week). I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or ideas on what I should do. Thank you all sooooo sooo much! I really appreciate any input!
