Masters Degree?

Hello,

I am a high school Senior who dreams of becoming a nurse in the ED and maybe a flight nurse later down the road. My question is would I be wasting time getting my Masters?

Thanks!!

I think that you need to decide what is best for you. A flight nurse does not require a Master's degree. A strong BSN program with a good preceptorship should be able to get you what you want. I started with an ASN, went to a BSN, and then on to my Master's; however my Master's degree was specialized in the field of nursing education and frankly there aren't that many jobs requiring those type of skills. If you want to go on I would suggest that you either look at the physician assistant (PA) or APRN (nurse practitioner). Be careful when you choose your schools because some insist you have a BSN before entering; however there are schools out there like Gonzaga who will bridge you through meaning that you can start with an ASN (2 YEAR DEGREE) and bridge over to the Master's program.
