LPN To RN program

Published

Hey everyone, I need some help!!

I am an LPN, only for 3 years now. I went through the LPN program at a local community college 4 years ago. I did struggle with the tests, mostly second term and just barely got by. My instructor told me because I did so well in clinicials and clearly struggle with testing that I could pass (but ended up passing anyways, barely).

This year I was accepted to the LPN to RN bridge program at the same school (only school with a nursing program in our town). I was so excited and in shock that I was accepted, they only take 6 LPNs. I thought I would never get in. The way their program works is the we join in winter term and only take pathophysiology and pharmacology (and same with spring, the full time second year). It was not easy, not only were we not included with the class, teachers never knew who we are. I had forgotten a lot of my A&P, very little direction in the class. Lecture, or online, do the reading and then two exams. Both exams were 100 points. You needed 140 to pass the class. The final for patho covered cardio, respiratory, vascular, neuro and psych. And I failed it. I'm out of the program, it's still so heart breaking. But I am given a second chance!! They told me to come back next year and re-take patho (pharm I passed).

Ok so for my questions. This exam was the exact same one in the LPN program that I struggled with. Cardio/Respiratory/Vascular. And I'll admit I really struggle to truly understand this unit. What can I do over the next 6months to study for this?? I am a hands on and visual learner. Any advice for my second time around?

One thing that was hard was not having a study group, joining in the program late made it hard to connect with other students. Especially without having lab or clinicals. I be-friended two other LPNs but one was very competitive and did not want to share information, and the other was never prepared (although she passed!). Thanks so much

Hi, you could search those subjects on YouTube, I am in a patho course right now and I find watching it helps. Also, I write down notes that only pertain to the objectives. One last bit of advice, try your best to make friends and get a group. It will help so much.
