LPN Case Managers???????

I am currently working in case management precerting outpt surgery for a hospital in WV. I would really like to hear from anyone who can give me some input on other LPN's that are utilized in the case management area. Our hospital is looking at broadening the role of the LPN in case management. Can anyone tell me about specific tasks-duties that LPN's are doing in case management??? WV or other surrounding states?? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Lori LPN

Dear Dixiedi,

Currently the I handle all surgery precerts and precert incoming transfers for the hospital. But I am learning more and more from other forums about LPN's being utilized in all areas of case management. Thank you for your response.

We have one LVN case manager at the hospital that I work at. We are a rehab hospital so she handles discharge planning and such. I've been giving thought myself about trying to shadow a case manager to see if that is something that I would be interested in as well (I am also working on bridging to my RN).

ANY ONE OUT THERE KNOW HOW TO GET CERTIFIED HAS LPN CASE MANAGER IN THE STATE OF MARYLAND.

An LPN is the manager in the case management office in my facility. She's great. I enjoy her being my boss, and teaching me things everyday. I think it can be one field that nurses are nurses, not just RN and LPN. Alot of it is experience, and comes with experience. :)

I worked as an LPN case manager for about eight years. I went back and got my RN and continue doing workers compensation case management. The biggest differences for me is I obtained my CCM as an RN (can't do that as an LPN) so I can work independently. I'm not certain you can certify in Maryland as a workers comp case manager as an LPN. Where I work, we have a few LPN's who are case managers but they mostly do pre-certs. Hope this helps!
