LOSING HOPE!

Published

So, like many of you, I recently graduated. I am taking my NCLEX in a few days and have yet to find a job. I know this seems premature to some, but I already had a job secured. All I had to do was to take my boards by a certain date and my dream job (on the unit I precepted on) was mine! The problem is: a few shakeups in human resources; a few errors on the schools behalf of submitting the correct paperwork on time; and lots of displaced trust and hope on my end.

Now, my family has all of the confidence in the world that I will pass my NCLEX and secure a job just as easy as the first "offer". However, I'm quickly learning that that's not the case.

Does anyone have any advice for me in dealing with pesky friends, family, fiance, and others who are constantly nagging me about my job hunt/ studying/ future plans?

It is INCREDIBLY depressing to say the least. And the worst part is, there are thousands of others out there in my same shoes. :(

Seems like there's a lot in your plate right now. But if you look at the situation, the priority is really your passing the NCLEX. That's what it boils down to. Without the license, who cares if you had a job secured etc. So I would just try to put all other things for now in the back burner and not be distracted by the "pesky family/friends." Focus on your NCLEX prep, then on your job apps.

Families mean well, but they do not understand. When I graduated a few years ago, my father-in-law would tell me about how there was tons of nursing jobs where he lived and I should have no problem getting hired. I'd have to keep explaining to him that they were only for experienced nurses, not new graduates. Eventually, I think my mother-in-law (also a nurse) set him straight because he dropped it...and he's the type that won't let go of any bone he grabs hold of.

NCLEX first because without that, doesn't matter is you landed the job now: you won't be able to work as a nurse without a license. So keep an eye out for jobs but like the previous poster said, you need to concentrate on passing the NCLEX.

Just straight up tell them the next few weeks are going to b extremely stressful for you and that the moment you pass and start your job you want to celebrate with everyone.. Just say thank you for your input and cone, but I need to focus on this with out any distractions.
