Where I work the labor and delivery nurse is also the nursery nurse. I take care of any and all pregnant women at 20 weeks gestation to delivery. I do non stress tests, assist with amnio's, labor, take care of preterm labors, care for preeclamptic patients, monitor patients, and labor patients, deliver and then care for them postpartum. If you are 20 weeks or more and present to the hospital with abd pain or any possible pregnancy complication, I take care of you.

The facility where I work is beginning the mother baby concept where the nurse who labors and delivers mom also cares for baby. One nurse cares for mom and baby post partum.

Hope that helps.
