Hi all! I just started the ADN program in Kaplan College, San Diego on May 14, 2009. As you can tell it has not been very long but already I feel the pressure and stress. I'm going to school full time ( Mondays thru Thursdays) and still working 12 hour shifts in the hospital on Fridays and Saturdays. On top of that I have a very active 22 month old son. Does anyone have any advice on stress management and time management? I'm finding it very hard to find time to study and do homework with everything I have going on. But I get it done because this is something I really want to achieve: I want to be a nurse! Also I have been out of school since I graduated high school ( 1999 ) in the Philippines at 16 yrs old. So I'm having to learn how to study again. If anyone has any advice at all with regards to studying strategies; please, please let me know! I hope to meet people here with the same experiences as mine.
If you are just about to start a nursing program, do not be discouraged. It will all be worth it at the end. You will feel better about yourself ,and you will have a career to be proud of. Nursing is one of the most fulfilling jobs out there. I look forward to being one myself!:heartbeat

The best thing you can do is try to take it one day at a time. Study whenever you can, like on your lunch break at work, etc. The nurses, MDs, and others that you work with can be great resources for info. Just remember that it won't always be this hard, & nursing school won't last forever. There really is a light at the end of the tunnel. One of the best pieces of advice I got when I started NS was to not look too far ahead when you get your syllabus for the semester. You will start worrying about the skills you will be learning farther ahead instead of concentrating on what you need to learn now.
