Iv education

Hi everyone!

Yesterday I graduated with my LPN, it was my b-day, and my one year anniversary as a cancer survivor (post chemo & radiation)!!!!

I am back to class Monday to complete my RN. My question is.......

I want to be an IV therepy nurse, also certified in chemo, picc lines, ect....

I know expereince will be needed. What can I do during this last year of school that will be benificial for me to get my foot in the door as an IV/chemo nurse?

Do you think any extra IV classes outside of school, or any training you know of would be beneficial??? I want to do everything, anything possible so I can work asap in this field. I know I cannot actually get certified until I am a RN with expereince, but what can I do unitl then????

Also, I am in Illinos/Iowa border.

Congratulation to both! I'm having similar thoughts about infusion therapy nursing. I also am currently undergoing chemo followed by radiation.

My thoughts are to find a hospital with an oncology dept that is willing to train me. I can't think of other ways to get experience in that field.

After working in a hospital for 3 years I switched over to home infusion nursing and have been doing it for 9 years. I too am a cancer survivor as it has been 15 years this month. My best advice to you all is to get as much IV experience you possibly can and then seek employment in an infusion agency as I did. Good luck!
