Is this long enough orientation?

Published

I graduated from school in Oregon about a month ago and moved to Southern California yesterday. I had an interview today for a telemetry position which I really like. It is an hour away from where my husband and I are going to live. I have a couple of concerns that I would like to hear people's input on.

1. Is 6 weeks long enough orientation on Telemetry Floor?

2. If I were hired they would like me to sign a 3 year contract. The downside is that it is an hour away from where we currently live and we are not going to be able to move. In the light of how the nursing job market is, is that a good idea or should I take chances on perhaps getting a job closer to home?

6 weeks to 8 weeks sounds good. what you need to find out is if they are willing to provide you with more orientation if you ask for it.

As for an hour drive in LA, is that what google maps says based on distance? If so, an hour drive is too far, because that does not include the actual drive time during traffic which can be considerably more.

It is VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND A JOB IN THIS MARKET. If you wanted something closer to home, why did you even apply for this position in the first place? Think about that, and ask yourself if you want to take this position. I encourage you too, is it even possible to move 30 minutes closer?

Best of luck with whatever you choose!
