I am starting to feel like filling out applications doesn't do any good, that it is all about knowing someone on the inside in order to get a position as a new grad around here. I live in the Richmond area and have two small children. My husband works but we could really use the extra money if I could find a job. I'm also concerned that it has been a year since I got my license, that this might look bad. I had a baby 3 weeks after passing boards (yes finished nursing school while very pregnant) and chose to stay home with her for awhile. I started looking for part-time work when she was 4-5 months old. Nothing. Now that she is approaching 1, I am comfortable looking for a full-time job. I love nursing and am eager to start my career. I feel that I have some good experience and qualifications besides the fact that I'm a new grad. I've applied to Bon Secours new grad positions as they pop up, as well as any position that I think I might possibly be considered for.
Fortunately my husband works an area hospital in an administrative/management position. His boss says she can get me a job "no problem". That was several months ago. Nothing.
Arghhh!!!!! (Sorry, I'm venting a bit)
I am looking for jobs every day in the Times Dispatch, HCA, Bon Secours and VCU. Any other area hospitals I can try? I would be willing to commute about 30 minutes and live in Southside.
TIA

I would say that at this time, when things are tight, it truly is all about who you know. I apologize if this is not the answer you are looking for, but I have witnessed how directors are hiring either experienced RN's or new grad RN's that have worked within the system that they are familiar with. Good luck and keep pursuing. You will knock on the right door.
