Interview to be a sitter/attendant

I am new to allnurses so I apologize if my post is not in the right place.

I am taking the last few prerequisites to apply to the nursing program at my college. I felt like it was a good time to get a job at the hospital for the whole "foot in the door" scenario. Currently I work at a job that has nothing to do with the medical field.

I have an interview on Friday at a hospital for sitter/attendant in the ER and it is PRN.

My questions are...what is the average pay for such a position? I understand the basics of PRN but could someone explain it just a little better? Basically I would really love 40 hrs, is that possible w/ PRN?
