Interview at OHSU

Published

I'm invited to interview at OHSU (the new program starting in Portland, OR) in two weeks. I'm excited because OHSU is one of the best graduate nursing programs in the country. I imagine the anesthesia program will follow in those footsteps.

The only problem is that since it's a new program, there's no voice of experience out there to give me a head's up! I have evolved a better frame of mind since my last two interviews and I feel more relaxed and confident because I will not die or anything if I don't get in.

I have an interview at Wolford, also in May, which will give me a little breathing room if I don't make Portland. I'm looking forward to visiting Naples. My hubby will be going with me on the Florida trip. We are going to make a vacation out of it.

Anyone else interviewing at OHSU?

Specializes in CICU / ICU.

Hey there,

I'm interested in applying to OHSU's CRNA program in a few years. If you find out information about the GPA/GRE/years experience of those granted interviews, etc... please pass along the information.

Thanks,

Evan

Evan,

All I know right now are my own stats. I think they are interviewing around 30 or so and that's out of a pool of X number of applicants...who knows?

I graduated with my BSN with a cumulative GPA of 3.66 and a nursing GPA of 3.9. My GRE score is 1200 and 5/6 on the writing portion. I have two years experience in a combo med/surg ICU. No open heart cases in my unit but just about everything else. I float to a larger SICU on occasion where I do see open-heart recoveries.

OHSU's application is one of the more complicated that I have seen. The written part requires four different essays. These essays explore not only your purpose in pursuing anesthesia but your leadership experiences and your contribution to your unit in various ways like how you act as a change agent in your unit, etc.

I'm sure you have already read their application. I sweated over those essays! I feel good about them. And really, it's a great opportunity to let it all hang out and give them a better picture of you than a one page essay could afford.

I wouldn't waste any time getting your thoughts together. A couple of years is not too soon to start preparing and tailoring your experiences to fit with what they are looking for.

thank you for this! I plan on applying to the OSHU CRNA program, and im trying to figure out ways to tailor my plans to best fit what their looking for. If you do get anymore tips or advice please share! =)
