Interim permit active after nclex

Published

Hello all,

I took my nclex on 1/18 and still have an active interim permit. However, I do not have my results yet and there isn't any pending initial application on the bottom.

I have contacted the BRN and they said they have already processed the results but did not give me any hint as to whether I failed or passed the Nclex. I read through countless posts about the permit being cancelled right after taking the Nclex pass or fail.

Is there still a good chance I have passed because my interim permit is still active? Should I keep working with my permit still currently active?

The fact that your IP is still active only means that they haven't actually updated your file. They have likely received your NCLEX results and those results are in the queue for actual processing into your file. Once someone actually is looking at your file and updating it with results, they'll cancel your IP. I quite suspect that only certain people at the BRN are allowed to actually process license information. I took the exam and the BRN likely had it within a few hours, if not by the next morning and it took them until about 9 pm that following day (about 35 hours after submission of exam for scoring) that my IP suddenly was canceled. Then about 10-15 minutes after that, I had an RN license number...

They won't tell you if you have passed or failed. Just look for cancellation of your IP. If you don't see an RN license number within a few minutes (like 30 minutes or more) then you've likely failed. Efficiency will drive them to cancel your IP and issue an RN license (if you've earned it) while interacting with your file in a single session. It makes no sense to do multiple sessions to review your file, close it, open it again after noting you've taken the NCLEX and cancel the IP, close the file, then review NCLEX results, open the file and issue a license number, close the file and publish. That's just too much work!

Thank you for the reply.

I and like everyone else hate this waiting game. Do you recommend just continuing to study for the boards?
