Input needed from OR nurses

Published

Hello all! I am part of a team of student engineers who are exploring solutions for OR nurses. From our research, there seems to be a lot of products designed with the surgeons in mind, yet not much for the nurses. It appears like there is a steep learning curve to become a scrub nurse, with lots of tools to remember and tasks to perform under pressure. We are looking into educational solutions as well as solutions for inside the operating room. We would appreciate input from as many of you as possible.

What are some of the challenges that you face on a daily basis?

What was the hardest part of learning how to become an OR nurse?

What solutions do you know of that have helped you learn or do you use on a daily basis?

Any other information you can give would be great!

Thank you for your help!

Traffic patterns and equipment is definitely an issue. Most OR rooms have been designed by people who obviously have never worked in the OR. Simplicity is key for the scrub and circulators in the room along with anesthesiologist. Injuries is something we have to think about at all times. There is just too much to say with the questions you have in this little forum. If there is any way you can talk to a circulating nurse she or he would definitely give you a whole lot of information especially within each specialty service in the OR.
