hey all.. just wondering if anyone can shed some light on the private/independent practice role of the CRNA and what it entails.. i see from a previous thread that yoga made mention of this, and i got curious and to thinking that this would be awesome in the end, knowing it probably isn't easy to set up and maintain the business end.. anyway, thanks in advance - -

DFK,

You may want to check out my sticky on the Pre-CRNA forum about money and reality. It has a lot of information regarding private practice.

I have been in private practice for over 20 years and know many, many CRNAs who are in the same or similar types of practice. It requires a business knowledge, ability to market yourself, thorough understanding of reimbursement, contracts and negotiations. The most important element is you must be an excellent clinical anesthetist. There is frequently no backup or support and you must be able to handle the most difficult situations.,

If you are a student AANA member, you may want to subscribe to the several CRNA groups at yahoogroups.com. There is old-gas, CRNABiz and several others. Rignt now there is a discussion going on about reimbursement codes for post-op pain control. Also, non-CRNAs or SNRAs are not permitted to post. So we don't have to put up with those non-anesthetists with hidden agendas who tend to post on these boards.

If you need specific information, send me a PM.
