IM injection help

So I know this is like a day one nursing skills but I don’t feel confident in my IM injections. Is anyone else scared they’re going to hit a nerve? I’ve watched several videos on correct technique, yet it still freaks me out how it feels like a shot in the dark even with landmaking.

ALSO I’ve had two bad experiences giving IM antibiotics, is it normal for those to REALLY hurt? Because both patients were nearly screaming in pain when I gave them that one I actually didn’t finish giving the full injection. Another nurse told me they normal hurt, but IDK.

any tips much appreciated.
