Icu nurses frequenly floating to medical floors as CNA whenever there is low census in icu stating that they are oncall to icu throughout the shift . What is your opinion.
Last time when I picked up a travel icu contract in one of the Florida hospital .in that hospital they frequently floating icu nurses to other floors as nurses aids whenever there is census drop in icu.even during the middle of the shift if your patient expires or transferring to somewhere they will float you as a CNA. The reason they don't want us to pick up patients was they will call you back at anytime to icu when there is a patient admission or crisis.whenever there is traveller nurse she has to float first .so I was asked to float several times and sometime for the whole 12 hours I worked as nurses aide for the whole floor of about 40 patients. I was very uncomfortable as I was not used to this hectic work. There is no one to speak up for nurses in Florida and it is a right of state .so whenever you pick up seasonal winter contracts in Florida hospital as traveller please be careful.
