Hurst vs. Kaplan.. Need advice!

Published

Hello fellow nursing students!

I am graduating in October and want to start preparing for my boards with either Hurst or Kaplan. I have looked into both and so far have noticed that Hurst seems to be more concentrated on mastery of content while Kaplan seems to be more about how to approach questions.

I would love any input from anyone who has used either reviews. Obviously, each one is a big $$ investment and I want to make sure to choose the best one! Any input would be greatly appreciated.. Thank you!!

Luckily, I took both Kaplan and hurst. Kaplan was provided from my school and at first, I did not enjoy Kaplan at all. I felt like I knew nothing when I went to the review course! Soon after, I started hurst. It was a good refresher course and as you mentioned is big on content review, which I lacked. I took the Hurst live review, which I found beneficial so I could discuss what we learned with fellow students, but I'm sure the online review is good as well. Anyway, as I sat down and started studyig, i can tell you that I looked at my hurst book a total of 5x. Kaplan questions are very similar to the nclex. I also read the entire Kaplan book and I felt prepared. I watched the videos on medications and did all the questions. It really helps you prepare for what you can expect on the nclex.

I am speaking from my own experience, but who knows maybe youll find hurst very useful. There is also that study guide floating around on here that is VERY VERY useful. Well hope that helps! If you any ?s lmk! Good luck studying :)

Hello there

I had the same question a few months ago. I was thinking if Hurst online or Kaplan on-demand (both online since I can't come at live review). I went with Hurst because I prefer content over Test taking Strat (and it's more cheaper :lol2: ). I can say that Hurst really boost my core content. They make things a lot easier to understand. :D As for the Qbanks, they have good ones also. I bought NCSBN 3wks for an additional qbank. I answered both Hurst and NCSBN Qbanks on my last week prior to my exam, and I passed with 75 qs. :D

Good luck to ya, and I hope I somehow helped you on your "predicament" :D

I'm doing NCSBN extlearning. I like their review online :)

Took Kaplan this week and thought it was helpful. Practiced questions all week long and learned strategies to help you get to the correct answer. If you know most of your content such as lab results, ABGs, Vital ranges and disease processes and just need guidance to picking the correct answer than Kaplan is good, plus they give you access to a ton of question banks to help you practice. If you need guidance and help with the content itself then I heard Hurst is good. Kaplan has an 85% pass rate, I believe Hurst has a 95% pass rate. Both of these rates is great. A bunch of us are going to attend the Hurst seminar to get more information in regards to content, so that hopefully having the content and the strategies together will be helpful. Good luck to you! :)
