How important the Essay is?

Hello,

I started working on the nursing school applications and very nervous about the essay part. I studied social science and I do not have any back ground. I graduated long time ago, so for the last few years, it was just like work and home. I did not have any volunteer work and social services. I recently became a CNA. That is the only healthcare related activity.

My prerequisites are all A+ and As, even though my GPA is not so good. I am worried so much about essay part. How much does the essay part weigh? Do you think it is just supplementary to the GPAs or sometimes a person having low GPA can make it thanks to the wonderful essays? What do you think?
