How does deferment work?

I'm applying to MSN programs. Does anyone have experience with deferring after they've been accepted?

1. When your deferment is accepted, does that mean you're automatically accepted into the next cohort? Or does it mean you're not accepted but have a very good chance of being accepted [again]?

2. Do you know if semester deferments are more commonly accepted? Versus semester deferments.

3. Are there any restrictions about why you're deferring? (I.e., deferring because you're undergoing chemotherapy vs. deferring because you'd like to travel the world for a bit?)
