HFCC Nursing Program

Published

Hi all,

I'm currently in my last semester of pre req's for the HFCC nursing program and wanted to know if there were any other people out there waiting to get in, working to get in, or already in. Any advice is helpful and just having someone else to talk about it with would be nice. I'm excited although I know the wait list can be pretty long (I'm hearing 2+ years but hoping thats not true) and am just ready to get started! Anyone else out there going through the same? And anyone already in the program that can let me know what to expect?? THANXX!!

I take the NET today. Lorraine told me the wait is 3 yrs at this point and to see her immediately after passing so I can get on the waitlist.

They're taking 60 in May and 150 (?) in the fall.

I'm in an odd situation, though. I've finished all my pre-reqs and will finish my coreqs this semester. She told me take classes towards a Bachelor's in the meantime.

Certainly the wait won't be 3 yrs. People drop for many reasons. Even with that, it'll easily still be over a year wait.

40 are admitted in the Winter, 80 in the Spring, and 160 in the Fall. I got on the wait list 12/21/09 and am 781 on the list which makes my start date estimated Spring or Fall 2012. Lets hope lots of people decide to change careers:p That's all I know right now.

Are u going to be trying to get into any other programs right now? From my understanding they take 320 students per year. I am going to be going ahead and applying to more schools and maybe even some lpn programs just to get a foot in the door. I'm trying not to be discouraged and just stay optimistic.

I am considering other programs, but it appears that all will take about that same amount of time. All wait listed schools are at a 2-3 year list, all competitive GPA schools are only accepting GPA over 3.9! BSN programs also have long wait lists as well. I checked today, only 280 are admitted yearly at HFCC. It's a real bummer! LOL I am very discouraged! Michigan needs to step up and get more teachers!

Well that REALLY sucks because they told me they were taking 320 a year which puts me even further back!! And at this point maybe an LPN program will do with a LPN-RN bridge program following. The LPN aren't as competitve and they still would increase your pay rate and still allow you to get your foot in the door. Lets not lose hope here!! Try to encourage each other thats what the post is for :) Let us know how things come along for you and I will do the same!! We will get there just may take a little time!!

Hello!

I am not in the nursing program yet, but I have been on the waitlist since October 2008! I heard news that they are taking 80 students for spring semester, and Im right at the cut off for that, so if I don't get in for spring, I will for sure be getting in for fall. So when its all said and done I will have been on the waitlist for either 19 or 22 months! Many students are finishing they're pre-reqs and NET faster than ever, and since HFCC is not a competitive program the wait just keeps getting longer. It sucks!

Sunkissed what did you do while you were waiting all that time?? Did you take other classes that you may need towards your bachelors?? Or did you just finish up the co req's? I won't have that option seeing as though I have already done all the co req's listed on the sheet. I am hoping that I can just start to work on classes I will need for thr RN-BSN program that I hope to complete following the RN program. I am even now considering the LPN programs. I know that it will take me a little longer to get where I want to be but at least I have a plan you know!!

well i transferred from OU, so i had alot of my pre-reqs already done, then it took me 3 times to pass the NET, and I was scared to take the NET back to back so I took my time and made sure I knew I was going to pass it, so while studying up for the NET I had all of that extra time so I basically have every class done that I need for my bachelors and all my prereqs, there is nothing left for me to take. i finished up the last of the classes i could possibly take last year. so for the past year, i havent even been enrolled in any classes. it really sucks because I feel like I am forgetting alot of info, but I do look at some books once in a while just to keep my mind on the subject. I also hung 2 huge human body posters on my wall LOL just incase I forget something. I was planning on taking like a nurse assistant course while waiting, just for the experience but that never happend.

Well it seems like you have everything in order anyway so thats good! You kind of did it like I plan to do it. The only downfall though is that once you are done with the RN do you now have to wait to get into an accelerated ladder program? I know the wait is going to be a lot longer for us that are just now applying but like I said I am not going to put all my eggs in one basket so I hope something comes along for me! What was on the NET? I am taking it in the beginning of March. I have taken the HESI before so is it like that?

I don't think there is a wait once you are done with your associates, from what I was told from wayne state is that if you already have your associates you are entered in for the 3rd and 4th year, so you basically skip the first 2 years because you have already done them at hfcc. I will probably just be a regular RN w/ my associates for a few then go back to school later. I am just so ready to be done with school for now. I was told there really isnt that big of a difference in pay between RN's with their associates and bachelors. and i've heard of the hesi, but haven't ever taken it so im not sure if they are the same. they should be some what similar though. the net test seems like it would be easy because its only reading and math, and i can read great but the reading is what threw me off. you will have to read 2 storys, and following each story and sometimes paragraph they will ask you questions regarding the passage. the math is pretty basic, addition, subtraction, fractions, percentages, algebra stuff like that. i recommend going to the hfcc book store and buying the net study book, i think mine was like $22, it helped me alot. but i also think i had a hard time, because it is timed and you have to read on the computer (which im not used to), so if you fail it twice, the 3rd time you get to take it on pencil and paper, and the 3rd time is when i passed it! you only get 3 tries. i have heard some people have a really hard time with it, but others pass it easily.

I was placed on the waitlist Feb.2009. I was called to begin nursing Jan .2011, I accepted but had to actually deferr my enrollment due to a suprise pregnancy. Long story short lost the baby...but just received my letter for spring 2011. ..:( yet :)
