Help Please- Scrub Nurses

Published

Please can anyone help. I have developed an allergy to the solutions that we use for scrubbing prior to procedures. I have been told that there is nothing else out there that i can use. What products do you use and do u know of anyone who has a similar problem. The future of my job is on the line and i don't wan to leave. Any help would be appreciated

What are you scrubbing with? What kind of reaction are you having?

I have tried scrubbing with Hibiscrub, Betadine and Sterilium Liquid.

With each of these products my hands and arms flare up bright scarlet, they itch and then they blister. Just been through a mass of patch tests which has shown these are all reactive allergens and i cannot use these.

Why don't you ask if they can get Phisohex (hexachlorophene) for you (it should still be available from the pharmacy) or an alcohol based FOAM product that works on contact--that is, you don't have to do a mechanical scrub. There used to be a hexachlorophene foam product called Septisol, but I don't know if it is readily available anymore--they may be able to special order it for you IF you are not overly sensitive to Hexachlorophene. I really think that an alcohol based foam will be your best bet.

Thanks very much Stevie, i will definately look into this.

Have a nice Christmas n New Year
