Help with interview!

I have had several interviews with hospitals and always get the sorry letter. I don't interview very well

because there is 3 or 4 people throwing questions at me that takes me time to think about what to say

and I get very nervous. Well, Friday I have another interview at a small psych in-patient facility and need to know what kind of things I need to know for this interview. I have only been a nurse for one year and only had psych in clinicals. Although seems like psych work at the long term facility I am at now.

Any help with questions for this interview would be appreciated.

I would brush up on your psych and psych meds prior to going. Maybe think of instances where you have used psych in the past and be ready to answer situational questions. Be able to tell them why you choose their facility, what you have to offer and why you want psych in general. Rethink your clinicals and be ready to talk about them and apply what you already know. If you have a psych pocket guide that is the best! Think safety and side effects of psych meds (NMS/TD-what the s/s of those are).

Thanks so much!

Good luck!!! By the way, I also get nervous and don't interview well. I didn't get the first 2 jobs I interviewed for that were RN residency programs. At the time I thought it was the end of the world. But it wasn't. :)

Good Luck with your interview!

I myself would say that I don't interview well either. I just think I put so much pressure on myself to be fully prepare that when it comes to the actually interview I end up not doing so well. I've walked out of interviews feeling great but didn't end up getting the job offer.

The advices I have received regarding preparing for interviews are researching a little bit about the hospital (mission/values/awards etc.) and mentally preparing some answers to typical behavior questions. But I have found that each interviewer is different and often approach the interviews in their own way. I am starting to think that most nurse managers try to find the candidate they best connect with.

But anyone else who has great advice I would love to hear them. I've interview for 4 positions now in a time frame of close to 7 months and haven't received an offer from 3 and currently waiting to hear back from the 4th.

I feel I don't interview well either! But i must say I have yet not to get a job i have interviewed for! My strategy always smile treat it like your talking to a friend but keep it professional!
