My original licensure is DC. I have a current RN license there. Yet, throughout my career (since 1985) I have had nothing but trouble trying to contact the Board of Nursing. When I lived overseas, I finally gave up - but they always managed to find me when it comes time to pay! Now, I need an IN license, and I have been trying for a month to get a reply from them - I have telephoned (no one answers - you get voice mails that are full), written via USPS, e-mailed, I have even "contacted the director". This is getting extremely annoying. I am licensed in MA, KY, and CO and I NEVER have these problems with those boards. What is with DC???? Does anyone have any ideas, short of going there in person (a two day drive), of how to get them to reply? They are hindering my job application process big time.... :angryfire

I just wanted to offer my sympathy. I'm sorry to hear you're having such a hard time. Have you contacted the IN BON? I'm a new grad, just licensed in DC, and I need a MD license. I got information from the MD BON, including one form that I have to give to the DC BON (I just mailed it), and which they are supposed to mail to the MD BON. As best as I could tell from the DC BON website, the fee for them to verify registration is $26, so I included a $26 check (payable to "Promissor") with the form. I have two other forms to give to the MD BON to get a temp license and to get them started on licensing me by endorsement.

I've had a very hard time getting sufficient information from the DC BON website, and I, too left them a voicemail with no reply back. I think your best bet is to see if there's a form the IN BON has for you to get filled out. For MD, you have to have both your original state of licensure and your current state of licensure fill it out, which would be doubly inconvenient if you were no longer licensed in your original state of licensure.

Good luck with everything! You wrote your original post a month ago, so maybe everything's figured out by now!

Take care,

Hillary

Thanks, Hillary! Although my post was a month ago, it still isn't sorted out. Every other state has gotten their act together except DC. I finally called the commissioner's office and spoke to a live person, and found out that I needed to send $26, which I did, but still nothing. I wish there were somewhere we could complain!

Well, considering it's DC, I'm not surprised. I live in the area and none of the local governing bodies seem to run very efficiently.

Sorry, I can't be of help, but the only thing you can do is keep trying. Eventually you should get some kind of reply.

Good luck.

Unfortunately, this is true. But remember, DC is a fiefdom, so that is part of the reason that there is such confusion in the 'government' here. If DC were a state (as it should be, since all DC residents pay federal taxes without being represented in Congress, and are in essence governed by people they have no power to vote for), then there would be more money and more accountability like there is now.

Probably.

I live in the area and was unsuccessful until I walked my app thru, vm always full, no response. Basically a 3rd world country in the midst of the US. Best of luck to u. They've moved to another location, I think because we kept finding them LOL
