Guidelines for perilite exposure and sitz bath

hi guys!

Just wanna confirm if the gudelines i listed here can be considered guidelines. the thing is, i was asked to give guidelines but there are no guidelines found in the books and even the net so i just read the informations and decided about the guidelines. :innerconf

Guidelines for hot sitz bath:

  • provide privacy
  • maintain patient's safety
  • sit in warm or cool water 3-4 times/day for 20 minutes
  • maintain warmth
  • promote comfort
  • assess the client's pulse and facial color

Guidelines for perilite exposure (heat lamp)

  • 25-watt bulbs may be placed 14 inches from the area
  • provide the client privacy
  • protect the exposed skin
  • never use bedsheets to form a tent over the lamp
  • the nurse should check the client's skin at 5-minute intervals throughout the duration of the procedure (app. 20 minutes)
  • instruct the client not to touch the lamp's surface

so, what do you think??? :innerconfAre my guidelines correct?? pls help! I think some of my guidelines are nursing responsibilities... i'm gonna report this 3 days from now so i hope somebody will help... tnx everyone!

Are these guidelines for the care of a post-partum patients?

It is necessary to check the temperature of the water in the sitz bath. It should be warm, but not "hot". I don't know of anyone who would agree to a sitz bath with "cool" water.

As for the peri-light, I haven't seen one used in over 20 years, and seriously doubt if you would find one on a post-partum unit, or a patient who would agree to use one.

 I've observed a perilite. It was used on a postpartum client with vaginitis. And they were using bedsheet/blanket to cover...lol I just read the dont's. Whats the rationale on not using bedsheet to cover anyway?

Im still looking for more info on Perilite in our book but I couldnt find it at the back of the book. Im using Koshier vol I & II. Examination is this coming saturday and we havent even discussed a single topic about perilight. groaaan...
