GPA

Hello, I'm a pre nursing student at sac state recently transferred from a community college. I am just so crushed because if i retake two classes it bumps my gpa to a 3.2 and sac state requires a minimum 3.3 but the average gpa is a 3.8. I don't know what to do. I feel like i want to quit because there is no way i will make it so i need help. What should i do? people tell me to apply at a diff colleges including private and community and then they tell me to just get a bachelors in science in whatever field then apply to a nursing program. help i just want to cry

What classes are you retaking and why? Why will it drop your gpa that low?

I'm sorry, that's a tough situation - I'm in CA as well and I know that Sac State is one of the most difficult public BSN programs to get into. Fortunately, if you're set on a nursing degree there are several ways to get there:

You could continue with pre-nursing classes in order to raise your GPA and then try to transfer into another university's BSN program. This would be the quickest path to a BSN but GPA is going to be a huge factor in admissions, especially for CSU/UC programs. If tuition cost isn't a concern maybe look into private schools?

You could change your major, finish your degree at Sac State, and then apply to ABSN programs. The down side is that that's a lot of extra classes and money for a degree that you don't really need, and when you're finished with your BA/BS it will be another 1-2 years for your BSN.

You could also go for a two-year ADN program at a community college and then transfer to a university for an RN-BSN bridge program. This is going to be the cheapest option, but a lot of ADN programs are impacted as well so you may have difficulty getting in with a low GPA.

Not sure what your current GPA is, but keep working on it and in the meantime do anything you can (gain work/volunteer experience, learn Spanish or ASL, etc.) to boost your nursing school application. Good Luck!
