Hello-I am a Nurse with one year experience on a complex wound care floor. I am looking into wound care certification and understand that extensive experience is needed in the field and I am hoping to continue working on this. My question is has anyone used the program through university of Washington the wound management education certification prep (or what Program did you use) and what prior experience did you need before you could take the program? Some of the websites that offer information can be rather confusing (ie: experience vs educational requirements etc). Thanks in advance-any info is helpful!

Hello,
I live in Texas and I start the Webwoc online program in August. The most respected certification is the WOCN certification and this program prepares you for that. In order to sit for the cert without going through a formal educational program you have to have 2 years of experience or take the educational track like I am. I actually have 5 years of wound care in home health and 3 years as a fulltime nurse in a wound clinic and still feel like I need to go through a program because it's so much to know. The 2 I recommend is Wedwoc or the program through Emory. I have not heard any good results from other programs. Good Luck
Thanks for the response! I've read a lot of good things about the Emory program, maybe I'll look into that. I'm just trying to figure out how long it should be until I take a program like Emory. What I got from this is one would need at least 2 years post BSN in wound care setting before you could (or should!) apply for Emory. The educational tract I'll have to look into also, it can be confusing lol. Thanks again for the response
You're Welcome. You have enough experience for the educational track at Emory. You only have to have at least 2 years post BSN exp if you wanna take the certification test without going through a program. The educational track like Webwoc and Emory is for those who want more educational knowledge before taking the test.
That's awesome-always looking for more education on wounds and what I deal with everyday. Thanks again

The WOC program through the Cleveland Clinic is also great and prepares you for certification through WOCNCB, the gold standard. It is online format. The only downside is that, if you are not able to travel to Cleveland, you will have to organize your own preceptors for clinicals in your area.
