Question

Going from ED to Utilization Mangement

Dear Nurse Beth,

How does an ER nurse (8years) transition out into the UM nursing field or a nursing role working from home? What are some things I can do to better position myself into landing such a role? Are there specific certifications I can get that will help me? Thanks

Dear ED nurse,

Usually certifications require 1-2 yrs experience in the field, as they convey expertise. UM is mostly learned on the job.

Register on indeed.com and check out the job boards in your area.

If you have the opportunity, job shadow a colleague in that department.

Here are some other ideas for working from home.

Best wishes,

Nurse Beth
