Going back to School after 10 years

U.S.A. Georgia

Hey there! I have enrolled at Gordon College for the Fall and am sitting for the Teas next month. I have a BBA from UGA. Do you think that will weigh at all for acceptance into the nursing program? I am applying right now. I am nervous. My GPA was not the best when I graduated 10 years ago. I am hoping they will not hold that against me.

Have you taken the pre-reqs yet? Anatomy 1 and 2 and Microbiology?

I am taking Anatomy I this fall and the rest next semester. That is all I am missing.

Great! It is hard to say what the school will think of your GPA b/c some weigh an overall GPA and others go by the pre-req GPA and still others go by both. I'd recommended speaking to your advisor to see how they weigh everything. I have heard that doing well on the TEAS makes up for lack luster GPAs. You may also consider an accelerated BSN program because sometimes those are easier to get into than regular programs. They are programs for people who already hold BS degrees in other areas. GL to you!

Does anyone know what the score on the Teas is that Gordon uses as a cutoff? Also, for the science portion, how in depth are the questions? I have the ATI study guide but haven't gotten that far in it yet.

Hello, I got in for the fall '09 nursing class at Gordon College. I also hold a degree (Bachelors of Arts in English). As far as Gordon College goes, they just pretty much go through all of the courses you've taken that pertain the nursing degree there at Gordon. It definitely helps out if you've made pretty decent grades thus far. I do strongly advise you to do as well as you possibly can in the A&P since it's the last pre-req you have left to take. As far as the TEAS goes, Gordon does'nt really have a certain score that they mark as a cut-off. From what I understand and what was told to me by my advisor, they just simply take the best scores from the pool of applicants at that given application period. I hope this helps:up::twocents:

Thank you! I am applying for Spring 2010 since it is the last time you can get in with the current pre-req's and the last class for an ADN. I wish I had taken school a little more seriously the first time around right out of high school. I really want this to come together for me.

hey, you just gotta have some faith and determination...that's all. I'm pretty sure it will all work out for ya!!! Good luck and if there are any questions, just let me know since I'm due to start here soon.

Thank you! I spoke to the nursing dept yesterday. She said that I should wait to apply. I should complete my sciences and then take the Teas. So, guess that's my game plan for now.
