FNP Transfer Program

Hello,

I am currently enrolled in a well-known Texas Family Nurse Practitioner program and am exploring the possibility of transferring to a program that provides structured clinical placement support.

I am located in the DFW metroplex and have encountered significant challenges securing preceptors without paying out-of-pocket. I am nearly finished with the didactic portion of my program, and my clinical rotations are scheduled to begin this Summer.

I recently spoke with Baylor and learned that they are unable to consider my application due to my Bachelor of Science in Nursing being completed through Western Governors University. I earned my Associate Degree in Nursing from a local community college, where I was valedictorian, and I currently maintain a 4.0 GPA in my current program.

I am looking for recommendations for FNP or Doctor of Nursing Practice programs that:
• Assist with clinical placements
• Accept Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees from Western Governors University
• Have a strong reputation and support system for students

Any insight or personal experience would be greatly appreciated.

    I guess no one has opinions on this? I'm glad I saw your comment on WGU because I did not know certain hospitals look poorly on them. I'm currently looking into NP programs as well. I hope to follow and see if anyone has opinions on this.

    Since I posted this, I learned many programs will only transfer nine credit hours in the masters program. I have already done close to 40 so I will not be transferring. My recommendation for you would be to make sure you find a school that helps you find your preceptors. Many schools do not do this and it is extremely challenging and stressful. Many will claim to help you find a preceptor, but do not actually help. I would ask specific questions to advisor such as what is the placement protocol for students who do not have preceptors and will you assign clinical sites? Hope this helps and best of luck. I wish I had known sooner. It is a major problem in our profession.
