FNP program equipment

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

I am entering my second year of the FNP/MSN program at Michigan State University this fall. It will be our first clinical rotation and we have to purchase equipment. Here is a list:

-Nylon, adult aneroid blood pressure cuff

-Pen light (preferably not disposable; battery operated)

-Otoscope/ophthalmoscope (with disposable specula)

    • Insufflator bulb for otoscope

-Reflex hammer

-Tuning fork

-Disposable monofilament strips & instrument (neurological testing)

My question is... what do I get??? I am especially confused about the otoscope/ophthalmoscope... how much do I really want to spend on something I'll probably only need as a student? Which one is best for students? My professor didn't provide much insight on this. Also, when I look for tuning forks... there are all different sizes. What is the standard one?

Thanks!

You might want to try a local uniform shop. They may be able to help you order some of the things you are looking for, they might even have some of those things there.

Of course, there is ebay or a medical supply store online. There are usually medical supply stores locally too.

Just some ideas. I would think the tuning fork would be ok to get something simple.

Your nursing instructors or fellow students may be able to help you too.
