Hi all,
Just read the sad news today:
I share with you the loss of our beloved "Mother of Hospice," Florence Schorske Wald. Former Dean of the Yale School of Nursing and founder of the first hospice in the United States, Dr. Florence Wald, MN, MS, FAAN, died on Saturday, November 8th, at her home in Connecticut. Throughout her lifetime, Dr. Wald advocated for compassionate care for the dying and established community hospice care not only as we still know it but gave of herself as mentor and role model to several generations of nurses.
So our two "mothers" (Wald and Saunders) are gone.
Their visions should be remembered as we move forward from "movement" to health care delivery system.
