feel like dropping out already

Published

In september I enrolled in the adult nursing degree at university, I have struggled from day one and after 3 days of placement I have become ill with sickness. I have two assignments to complete by Monday and I am struggling to find time to do these. I'm feeling depressed and honestly don't know if i can do this for 3 years. Can someone give me some advice?

It's all about time management and taking care of yourself. Make sure you are eating right and doing a least a little bit of exercise which helps relieve stress. Stay hydrated. Get plenty of sleep. These methods can help alleviate depression and buffer you against future stressors; however, if it persists then you obviously need to see your PCP.

Take lots of breaks when working on assignments for long periods of time. That helps you recharge your mind. You will actually get work done quicker and more effectively when you take breaks versus not taking breaks.

Keep a calendar showing when assignments are due and when you have tests and clinicals. Also make a to-do list prioritizing things based on when they're due. Look at that list every day. Every day ask yourself what your goals are for that day, i.e. you will finish a rough draft of the paper tonight so you are ready to proofread it the next day, etc.

B*tching with friends and classmates from time to time is actually a good stress reliever. Try it if you haven't done it yet :)

Lastly, keep in mind that you can either change your attitude or the situation you're in. It's up to you.

Good luck!
