Hey, everyone!
I'm considering a change to home health. I'm tired of the stress related to my current position. However, I want to know how much and what type of experience is desirable.
I have almost 1 1/2 years experience working as an RN supervisor at a nursing home and a little under six months med/surg at a hospital. Is this the kind of experience that might get me into home health?
Any response would be most appreciated. Thanks!!! :)

Hello! I have been in home health now for over 4 years. I love it and will never go back to a hospital setting. the experience you need is pretty much what you is a good head on your shoulders. by this I, its just you and the patient. You are in their home and if something happens you need to think on what to do. of course you have to call the md for orders, and case manage your patients. but it is wonderful, independent work! you get to know your patients, there is actual time in your day to breath, time in your day think, and to give the kind of patient care you want.
good time management, is a plus and their is a lot of paperwork with home health. esp if you work with a home health company that is medicare certified. so good luck!
if you have any questions...just ask!
emily:yeah:
Thanks, Emily! Home health just sounds what I'm looking for.

Lost in America, I hope youre still not lost.
Any who...
I recently started in home health and LOVE it! It is so different, but SO much better too. My background is NICU, yes, Babies. However the branch manager said she was impressed by my excitement and interest in the home health field, I told her I researched what home health was like and had spoken to other nurses for insight. The jobs I applied to wanted one year acute care experience, so I think you should be good.
As with any job, you need to show them you are trully interested and dedicated to the position, not just another paycheck.
BEST WISHES
Thanks, intothemoon! I am psyched.

Your experience should be fine for HHC. I just got my LPN licnese and I am starting my first job in a HHC agency. They took me with no experience.
Awesome! I'm really psyched.
