have you ever had a problem pt like this?

I have a pt, who is very anxious and refuses the anti-anixety med precribed. When this pt gets panicky, the aniexty he feels is taken out on the person who is caring for him. He accusing them of not doing his cares correctly, insists that you do all kinds of petty things, and then plays each nurse against the next. He will ask for someone who "knows more than you to come in", but then isn't satisfied with that person. Then on the next shift, he will complain about the previous shift.

At first, I thought it was a phase and would pass, being new in our facility, and having a new condition that played into his phobias. So, not much charting was done at first. Then he had a couple good weeks. Now he is back to his old tricks with a vengence. We have been doing charting to show his anxiety is controlling his behavior. My problem is that I am one of the only full-time nurses in the facility, and on my shift I get him every single day. The other shifts rotate every month. So, even though this happens with other nurses besides me, not all are charting, and I am getting more of the brunt of it than most due to my increased exposure to him. I am feeling vulunerable and frustrated in this situtation.

Has this kind of thing ever happened to you, and what have you done about it?
