Duke University Program

Hi Everyone,

First off, thanks for letting me ask my question; hopefully I'll get enough responses....

I am REALLY interested in Duke Anesthesia program. So interested, I am taking a pay cut and will start working for them in the cardio-thoracic ICU when I graduate with a BSN this May I am trying to get in by January 2007 (with 1 and a half years of experience).

1: Anyone heard about the program. I have perused this site but haven't seen anyone mention it.

2: What are my chances of getting in with 1 1/2 years experience, 3.67 GPA, a ton of community service projects, a research presentation at a regional nurses research conference, and an Overall Excellence Award as a graduating senior form my school?

3: At this point, and given how much I would love the privilege of becoming a CRNA, what will be my best moves to ensure that I get there? Thanks guys!!

nia - good luck wih your new job at Duke ... I really loved working in the CVICU after graduation. And I think it helped my chances of getting into my program. I've heard Duke is a good program. You should probably start shadowing one of their CRNA's soon and see what they think of the program (if they attended that program, great, but if not then they're at least teaching the current students and can give you some advice). One of my friends went there and said the major downfall to the program was having to compete for almost EVERYTHING with the residents.

Be sure you look at more than just one school (putting all your eggs in one basket ...), becasue ALL programs are very competitive. Just keep your options open and try not to fall in-love with only one. It'll save you heartache in the end.

Thanks!! I do plan to apply to at least 5 schools, but duke is #1 on my list! Thanks again for the info :)
