Dr. Bernstein

Hi all,

Has anyone heard of, or read, Dr. Bernstein's book Diabetes Solution? He suggests around 60 mg. of carbs a day a moderate amounts of protein. No fruits, milk, or breads. He has diabetes himself and says he's been on his diet (diabetes solution diet) for 30 years with normal blood sugars.

Just curious if anyone else has heard of this Dr. Thanks!!

I've heard of him, but never read the book and am not an expert on the relevant research ... but when I became "pre-diabetic" 6 months ago, I decided to try a low/moderate carb diet with moderate protein and moderate fats. It simply made sense to me. My diet is not the same as the one you describe, but it is similar.

As long as I don't eat much carbs, my blood sugars are fine -- and I have lost 32 pounds. However, keep in mind that my blood sugars were borderline and my type II diabetes was/is probably closely linked to my abdominal fat. That diet might be much less effective for someone with more advanced disease.

I have heard of him but not read his book, what i don't like isthat for me this type of diet would be very restrictive and would be diabetes controlling me rather than me being in control.
