I am taking medical math and i really don't have a great teacher. I would like some advice on how to recognize the information in an order that i don't need to include in my calculation.

I almost always get 100% on my medmath tests. I usually watch a youtube person, and whenever anybody asks me for advice I always refer them to this video. It's 1 hour long, but it's thorough, and slow-paced.
As to an answer to your question, I usually direct my eyes to the units of medications "mg" or "ml" or "gtts." I also look for time units so like many "hr/min." That's how I usually find the "information" that I calculate on.
Moreover, I look for certain things such as the "Doctor's order." And what the hospital has "At hand/stock supply." Again, that's how I usually find the "information" that I calculate on.
Lastly, I must recommend that you use "DIMENSIONAL ANALYSIS" when calculating these equations. It's just EASIER. I initially tried the other method, where I'd just try to logically think it out, and found out I wasted so much more time and effort that was not needed.
