DOH visit

U.S.A. Washington

This will be the first time I have worked when there is a DOH visit. What should I know?

Well, why are they coming? Are they there to do a general inspection or as a result of a complaint. In general you need to know how to deal with a fire, your meds need to be properly stored and any multi dose vials labeled with date and time opened. Med room clean and orderly. Have your badge on where people can clearly see it. Know what to do if you get a critical lab result. Dress professional. Work place need to be very clean with all food/ drinks confined to the break room. Know how to deal with patient privacy issues. Know where your crash cart is and how to call a code. If you have this information on your badge you can reference it. It is acceptable to say "I don't know but let me get someone who can assist you". Know how to reference your MSDS. If they are coming for a specific incident that you were involved in, know your policies. Your charting, good or bad will have to stand for itself.

Thanks Diane. It is just a general inspection. So sounds kind of like Joint Commission visit. Not been involved in either but I appreciate your reply!!
