Do I have it?

Published

Hi everybody,

I'm sorry I haven't written in so long..I'm not sure anyone noticed or cared, lol I just like to pretend I'm missed :p

Anyway I have been really busy. Between switching jobs (I work in a medical practice now as a secretary..its a step closer in the scheme of things..better than a bank teller anyway) and preparing to submit my application to LPN school (cross your fingers) so needless to say I haven't had much time.

So back to the reason I'm writing this. I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2002. My endocrinologist warned me it was a pre-diabetic condition, but being 18 I didn't pay much attention.Four years later I had my first OGTT with results in the pre-diabetic range (146). So I decided to join a gym and try to get this under control. My boyfriends mom is an LPN and gave me some testing supplies so I could keep track of things. My blood sugar was never higher than 130..high,but not diabetic. It usually was between 80-100.

However, two weeks ago I got quite a scare. I had missed two doses of my metformin, and was sick, which I know increases your BS.But after lunch I took it and it was 223 mg/dl. I noticed I had been urinating a lot,and noticed tingling in my limbs..both symptoms of diabetes. From that day I've been excercising, taking my meds regulary, testing and watching what I eat,and it seems to be back in the normal range. Everyone I've talked to tells me my blood sugar was elevated because I was sick, and I don't really have Type 2. But my argument is if my pancreas functioned normally,it wouldn't have gone that high. Also, even though I'm no longer sick I still am experiencing the neuropathy. My mother is urging me to go to the endocrinologist, and I haven't made an appointment because I know I'm going to get a lecture. Plus,I figure as long as my sugar levels are in the normal range she'll just tell me to keep doing what I'm doing. I haven't worked at the doctors office long enough where I feel comfortable asking them. So as a group of 'medical experts' what is your opinion? Do i have it?,and if I do, do I need to see a doctor? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you and I'm sorry for the novel!
