Did I do something wrong?

Hello! I have a question about obtaining a license by endorsement. I currently live in Oklahoma and have an active RN license. I am originally from Georgia and was an LPN there and had my license transferred to Oklahoma with no issues. In Oklahoma, I completed RN school and received a license with no issues. I have a charge on my background for theft by shoplifting, misdemeanor, from 2005 when I was 17 years old. I was with a group of friends in the mall and we stole a necklace as a dare. Each time I've received my license before, I disclosed this information and provided court documents and such as required.

Now I am trying to transfer my license to Michigan. On their application it asks "have you been convicted of a misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison" so I answered no, since mine was not. They then sent an email saying that I had answered no to the conviction questions even though they found a conviction on my background check and asked me to explain. I responded saying that I had answered no since my charge was not punishable by up to two years in prison and then explained the charge. They replied saying, "we don't have room on our application to list every offense, however we expect our applicants to be forthcoming with all convictions." Does it sound like they're saying I was trying to hide something? I really wasn't, I simply answered the question the way I thought it asked? They are now requesting court documents and a signed statement about my charge, which I will provide. I'm just worried I did something wrong by not disclosing it originally and worried they won't issue me a license. Am I worried for nothing? What are your thoughts?

Larsony is punishable by up to two years in prison even of you didn't receive that sentence. You probably should seek legal advice.

It was not a larceny charge. It was misdemeanor theft by shoplifting, less than $300 and in Georgia it is punishable by up to one year in prison. It was a $10 necklace from Claire's.

I think you're doing the right thing, I think it was an easy misunderstanding and you were open as soon as they asked. Just keep cooperating and see what happens. It sounds like your thing was not only as a minor (which I am surprised is still on your record-I thought misdemeanors as a minor were taken off your record-maybe you have to request that? I don't know, maybe ask a lawyer about that) but also a minor thing. It would be dumb for your license to be denied because of that. If it drags or starts to look iffy, I would get a lawyer, just to get advice on handling it. Good luck.
