Deployment: Active vs. Reserves AF

Published

Can anyone advise of the difference in deployment times for Air Force active vs. reserve? I was told by one person that the Air Force Reserves has a deployment of typically 4mos and the Army's deployment was usually much longer. Then, an active AF recruiter told me yesterday that active duty has a lesser deployment time of about 4mos every 2yrs vs. reserve AF deployment of up to 12-15 months at a time. Is this true? Obviously, I understand the possibility and likelihood of deployment in joining, but would prefer a 4mos over 12-15mos. and perhaps Active Duty is better in this regard.

Thanks for any insight!

As far as I know AF active duty & AF reserve deploy for 4 months on average apiece with about 18-20 months in between depolyments. There is a little varation between how often you deploy/how long but not that much.... The variance usually depends on what your AFSC/job is.

Hope that helps.......

I am an active duty Captain in USAF.....Also, recruiters (even healthcare recruiters) often know little about nursing in the Air Force.
